The BHC youth team won all games and the tournament in Marburg, qualifying for the German championship. But there was even more to this weekend than only great youth lacrosse.
There was also the big day of rivals at our BHC home field "Reuter 1" in Berlin, Zehlendorf.
BHC A vs. BLAX was on the schedule. BLAX --- Berliner La(X)crosse Verein --- , the other competitive Lacrosse team from Berlin and the current German champion brought every player to the “battle” they could muster. They wanted to re-establish their almost 10-year old-dominance in lacrosse, not only in Berlin but all over Germany.
The last game in fall was won 16:5 by BHC for the first time in 6 years. But back then BLAX was missing some of their best guys – or so they said. This time BLAX didn’t want to take chances again. A cheerful crowd At a sunny day people had smiles in their faces. Live music was played and an exciting hockey game preluded the following intense lax action. Now the crowd changed the set-up. People saw a marvelous game of lacrosse and rewarded the teams with an atmosphere of cheerful vibes which is regularly considered "way too loud" by some neighbors of the pitch ... In the first 5 min BLAX “blitzed” BHC scoring a 3:0 lead. But the BHC team stayed concentrated and relaxed. After tying the game BHC never gave up the lead. The players showed attitude and character, scoring 6 quick goals in a row and continued to a solid 20:7 victory against the current German champion. It's not over until it's over People who think the job is done could find themselves in the same position like the "Eisbären" which played a great round robin but lost in the playoffs to a so considered "easy opponent". BLAX is still in game ... two month of great practice and BLAX is again a real threat for everyone. Be alert BHC and LAX GERMANY ... the TIGER got shot but he isn't dead. And BHC has still a lot to do.
It was nice to see a great team effort. The BHC man-down unit had no goal against it. Our defense caused many turnovers and played hard ... nice body check, MAX, you nailed him to the ground ... and our fabulous offense could take advantage.
Robert Hauffe, playing attack, was on fire... scored 11 goals and 3 assists ... all this was fun to watch. If you didn't see the game you surely missed a great chance to explore the beauty of lacrosse. GREAT day for BHC LAX ... great day for BHC in all ... the men's hockey team did win their penalty shoot-out as well.
Hope to see you all at the NORD-OST CUP on the 1st and 2nd of May, BHC HOME FIELD. |
